Edo Embroidery
The history of Japanese embroidery dates back to about 1,400 years ago. It began with the introduction of Buddhism and the creation of embroidered Buddhist statues. After the 17th century, embroidered kimonos became popular among the merchant class. Edo embroidery came to be known as the representative of Japanese embroidery along with Kyoto-style and Kaga-style embroidery. Please come and see the craftsmanship of each stitch and the sincerity of the work up close and personal.
